BlueHost vs HostMonster

BlueHost and HostMonster are two very similar web hosting providers. In fact, BlueHost and HostMonster are both owned and operated by the same corporation, located in Provo, Utah. A careful scrutiny of each company’s website reveals that both brands have, in fact, the same sales rep. Both companies provide an excellent web hosting package with very similar services; there are very minor differences between the two packages. A detailed web hosting comparison of BlueHost and HostMonster follows.

Pricing

BlueHost’s web hosting package is priced at $6.95 per month. HostMonster’s web hosting package is priced at $5.95 per month. However, both sites are currently offering promotions which reduce the price for a 36-month contract to $3.95 per month. Both companies require a minimum 12-month contract, although both companies will allow the consumer to opt out at any time.

Site Promotion/Domain Registration

Both BlueHost and HostMonster offer free WhoIs domain registration for your website. BlueHost and HostMonster also provide Google and Yahoo credits to help you promote your website. Both BlueHost and HostMonster will allow you to register an unlimited number of domain names as your business grows.

Website Features

Both HostMonster and BlueHost provide an advanced number of features in their web hosting packages. If you haven’t already developed a website for your company, you can easily build one with either BlueHost or HostMonster’s sitebuilding software. The only downfall to using their software is that if for some reason you decide to stop using their services, you’ll need to rebuild your site, since their software will only work on their servers. Both BlueHost and HostMonster provide you with the ability to host forums, blogs, and message boards on your websites. HostMonster and BlueHost also provide you with the ability to run several different e-commerce tools on your website, so you can cater your business site to your needs.

Subtle Differences

There are only two minor differences in the web hosting packages that BlueHost and HostMonster offer: BlueHost limits its clients to 2500 IMAP and POP3 email accounts, while HostMonster offers an unlimited amount, and BlueHost caps FTP accounts at 1,000, where once again, HostMonster has an unlimited number. Both brands offer stellar customer service and an extensive online database full of tutorials.
