Search Engine Marketing

Search engine optimization (SEO) is a goldmine for anyone who knows how to do it well. What use is a website if no one visits it? Many companies employ people especially for local SEO. There are also many free SEO website report services available to those who search for it. Of course, it depends on the scale of your website. Many with personal sites and blogs rely on free services to get their site noticed. However, multimillion dollar businesses invest huge amounts into SEO. Because search engines do not release details of their algorithms to the public domain, SEO is more of an art rather than a science. There are many methods that people have used including the more obvious: including keywords multiple times, meta tags and so on. And then there are the less often used techniques which can really get your website up the search rankings: if another website links to yours, depending on that website’s importance, this can really enhance your search rankings. Of course, for those with some money to spend, there is always search engine marketing (SEO SEM) which involves paying for prominent positions on search engine sites, often, with relevance to the user’s search terms.

The most popular and established services are Google Adwords, Microsoft Adcenter, Yahoo! Search Marketing and, increasingly, Facebook Ads. Prices for such adverts vary but are often very small amounts. The services are also offered under different schemes: pay per click (PPC), which charges the advertiser each time the advert is followed; and cost per thousand impressions (CPI), which charges the advertiser each time the user loads the advert.

The decision to use either scheme is based on the funds of the advertiser and the amount of traffic they want to their site.

With so many options, choosing the right way to market your site can be hard, but remember there are plenty of free options to choose from if you find the right tips.
