Hiring new workers, take advantage of online manufacturing training
We are hiring new workers all the time for some of our factory positions. The jobs are not necessarily the most pleasant because the factory is pretty hot and dirty. We have a fairly high turn-over in employees, which is really frustrating.
To slow this down, we are increasing some of the benefits that go with these positions. We are also focusing on better manufacturing training for the available jobs. One complaint has been that there was too little on-the-job training. Offering these DVDs and paying our employees to go through them should make a difference in their willingness to commit to these job-slots. A pay increase won’t hurt either.
I write manuals and make DVDs for companies that want to improve the level of skills of their employees. I like my job because I know I am helping men and women who probably will never be able to afford the time or money to go to college, but still care about being the best they can be at their job.
My manufacturing training DVDs are easy to understand and geared toward industrial skills. Sometimes I think that company bosses should also go through the courses.
They would better understand when problems with equipment or systems-maintenance arise. The better they understood the nuts and bolts of their company, the more efficiently they could run it. I just finished my commitment to the army and now I am ready to pursue some other interests. I have decided to take some additional manufacturing training courses that specialize in instrument maintenance.
I did some of this in the military and enjoyed the challenge of keeping equipment up and running. There is a real sense of satisfaction in knowing that you understand how to keep these enormous pieces of equipment doing their jobs correctly.
I like assessing how they work and being able to problem-solve when they stop on me. While the principles are the same with army equipment, there are many more possibilities to consider now. I think my courses will prepare me for a career in this field.
